Frequently Asked Questions

Flowers

What flowers do you have?

We offer seasonal flowers - so our availability changes almost every day! We grow over 200 species and cultivars, including some interesting and unusual varieties that you might not find elsewhere.

Depending on the season we will have an abundance of Sweet Peas, Dahlias, Sunflowers, Cosmos, Alliums, Zinnias - and so much more!

Can I pick whatever I want?

There is so much to choose from in the cutting garden, you will be spoilt for choice! We do occasionally reserve flowers for events and weddings - you will be advised of this when you arrive, but also look out for any the RESERVED signs in the garden.

Do I need to bring my own bucket?

You can buy buckets from us, but we strongly encourage you to bring one from home to be as sustainable as possible.

I've never cut my own flowers before - will there be someone there to help?

Yes! There will always be someone in the garden for guidance and to explain the process for you. Whilst we do have lots of jobs to getting on with in the garden but we are happy to answer any questions.

Why British - what's wrong with imported flowers?

This is an important question and one that means a lot to us. Buying British-grown flowers means you are supporting local businesses while significantly reducing the environmental impact associated with imported flowers, particularly long-distance transport and complex supply chains.

British-grown flowers also offer better traceability - it's much easier to find out how your flowers were grown, how they were handled and what chemical load they might contain.

But more than that, we believe British-grown flowers are stunningly beautiful and capture a moment in time - they smell fabulous and just feel extra special.

You can read more about British-grown flowers through Flowers from the Farm, the UK network for sustainable British flower growers.

What is Regenerative flower farming, and what is all the fuss about soil health?

Regenerative growing means leaving the land in better condition than we found it. We aim to improve soil health, support wildlife, increase biodiversity and work with natural systems.

Soil health is the foundation of everything - for gardeners, farmers and anyone working with the land. Healthy soil means strong, healthy and resilient plants.

We choose to build and support the life within our soil to make nutrients available to plants - instead of relying on synthetic inputs derived from fossil fuels that pollute and degrade the land.

We encourage you to come to the garden and see what is possible using this approach. We think our beautiful thriving garden is proof that we really don't need to rely on these external inputs, and by supporting nature we can have a beautiful, healthy and productive garden.

We see this as vital work for productive gardens and for the long term health of our planet.

At the Farm

Is there a cafe at the farm?

Not yet, but we are working on it! In the meantime we can recommend some lovely places nearby.

The Larder at Burrough Court

Fernley's Dairy Barn, Whissendine

The Lion Inn, Whissendine

Stilton Cheese Inn, Somerby

Do you have parking

We have parking on site - but spaces are limited. We always encourage you to car share as much as possible.

Is there a toilet?

Coming soon. We are planning for a compost loo in the garden - watch this space.

Can I bring my dog?

Well behaved dogs on short leads are welcome in the garden. We have chickens, geese, a wandering peacock and a cat on site, so dogs must be kept under control and all poo picked.

Do you take card payments?

We take cash and card at the farm. Or you can in advance on the website.

Is it accessible?

Some of our garden paths are narrow and uneven - if you have specific needs please contact us to discuss. Wheelchair access is limited to the main path in the garden, and suitable for outdoor / all terrain wheelchairs.

We are passionate about making our garden accessible for everyone, and are working towards making the farm as inclusive as possible.

What should I wear?

Sensible footwear! The ground can be uneven, muddy, dry, dusty or all of the above depending on the weather. Layers are also a good idea because British weather likes to keep us guessing.

Are you family friendly?

Children are very welcome and we love to see children and young people connecting with nature. Children must be supervised at all times as we are a working garden and there are hazards such as ponds, uneven surfaces, trip hazards, bugs and other rural delights.

Do you do group visits?

Yes! From July 2026 we hope to have completed construction of The Lady Balfour Barn where we can host groups for talks, workshops and events with refreshments. Groups size is limited by car parking spaces with a maximum of 20 spaces.

How do we find you?

We are nestled in the rolling Leicestershire countryside, near Little Dalby village.

SAT NAV will bring you straight here, but signal may cut out when you're close. The entrance is next to Landfield House, look out for the White Goose A-Board, and park on the grassed area.

If you see lots of walls - you're in the right place!
